The grocer-meets-cafe is one of the few pet-friendly establishments at One Holland Village that welcome pets inside! With the blistering hot weather, Surrey Hills Grocer’s indoor (and airconditioned) seating with pets is a much, much appreciated respite from the outdoor heat. They even have an in-house dog bakery with yummy treats for our fur babies, while we chow down on their delectable new offerings.

What’s New

Following Melbourne pancakes at their Woodleigh outlet, Surrey Hills Grocer’s at One Holland Village brings more of Australia to Singapore with Melbourne’s iconic MoVida’s Tapas – the ones who ignited Melbourne’s love for tapas since 2003 – on their menu. Alongside the ten signature MoVida dishes, this outlet boasts the chain first open-fire grill kitchen, and a custom-built ice-cream truck scooping out creamy fresh gelato from Tasmanian brand Van Diemens Land Creamery.

The Space

Surrey Hills’ outlet sits at a quiet corner on the third floor of One Holland Village.This pet-friendly cafe has ice-cream truck greets you as soon as you step in; walk through the grocer, which houses a small section of organic pet food and accessories, to get to the cafe. It may not seem like it but the lush farmhouse grocer-cafe spans more than 4,000 sq ft and can sit up to 130 diners, with options for both indoor and al fresco dining.

Our Experience

We started off with the Triple Truffle Fries, fries doused in truffle three-ways – truffle powder, truffle olive oil, and truffle mayo dip – an absolute delight for truffle lovers (will be an overkill, if you are not).

Sharing two mains between three persons, we ordered the Chicken & Chestnut which sees sliced chicken breast meat atop a huge wallop of mashed potatoes, in a pool of mushroom chestnut mushroom bisque. The sweet and savoury flavours, together with the creamy mashed potato feel almost comforting; but don’t be fooled by its appearance, it makes for quite a substantial meal (even for two).

Also from the grill menu, is the outlet-exclusive Truffled Wagyu Donut; we love our truffles so this was a no-brainer. A super juicy wagyu patty, slathered in Truffle cheese and burger sauce, sandwiched between Poolish (a type of pre-ferment) donuts. The light and airy donut buns soaked up most of the juice yet biting into it didn’t feel overly dense.

We love that didn’t have to sit outdoors battling the heat, with our furkid, as with many pet-friendly establishments. Here, the friendly staff also offered some snacks from the grocer’s range of pet treats. Aircon, good food, and pet snacks, what a treat for all!
